GRAMMY winner Lorde is about to aggrandize her impact on pop culture, the Kiwi teen sensation will be penning and performing the lead single for the soundtrack of Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1.

Fresh off two Grammy wins and a multi-platinum selling album, the Royals singer will also have the highly enviable task of curating which artists will be joining her on the record, available via Republic Records this fall.

“Curating the soundtrack for such a hotly-anticipated film was a challenge, but I jumped at the chance,” said Lorde. “The cast and story are an inspiration for all musicians participating and, as someone with cinematic leanings, being privy to a different creative process has been a unique experience. I think the soundtrack is definitely going to surprise people.”

Directed by Francis Lawrence (I am Legend; The Hunger Games: Catching Fire) and starring America’s sweetheart, Jennifer Lawrence, alongside Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, and Woody Harrelson, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 is the latest instalment in the box office sensation series based on Suzanne Collins’ best-selling trilogy of Hunger Games novels.

As noted by director Francis Lawrence, the collaboration between Lorde and The Hunger Games is a partnership made in young adult heaven. “I sat down with Lorde on the set [of Mockingjay] this spring and I was immediately struck by how she so innately understood what we, as both fans and filmmakers, were trying to accomplish with the film. Her immense talent and keen understanding of Mockingjay’s characters and themes not only have enabled her to create a song of her own that completely captures the film’s essence, but her insight and passion for our project make her the perfect creative force to assemble the other songs on our soundtrack. I can’t wait to share what she’s done with the fans — it is truly remarkable.”

While the music industry is in itself a fight-to-the-death of sorts, it can be said with great amount of confidence that Lorde’s Mockingjaw single will be the song of 2014.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 will be in theatres November 21, 2014.
